a life with dogs
Growing up on a small farm in Manawatu, I learned early on the benefits of well-trained dogs - they’re calmer, friendlier, and a real joy to be around.
My journey into dog care didn't start in the typical fashion. As a builder, I was often on sites that weren’t exactly welcoming to dogs. Missing my own dog, Inja, during long days at work made me think, there had to be others feeling the same pinch. That’s why I started Doug's Dogs QT, to help folks who can't always be around for their dogs during work hours or just need a hand in getting their dog the exercise and socialisation they deserve. This led me to pursue a Certificate in Dog Psychology and Training.
With thorough understanding of the evolution of canines, their psychological traits and instinctive behaviours, I've found the Operant Conditioning Theory is best suited to critically assessing situations, preventing harm or destruction and training your dog into a role model which can be continued on by clients with ease.
There are crucial fundamentals in building communication, respect, and trust with dogs. This foundation shapes everything we do at Doug's Dogs QT.
Inja is more than just a pet; he’s the soul behind what we do. His journey from a spirited puppy to a disciplined, loving companion is what inspires our work. He’s a living testament to the benefits of consistent, Operant Conditioning.
